Our in-house magazine, Branding & design, is a successful biyearly publication containing a range of features and editorials surrounding the fashion industry.

Here we take a closer look at one of the articles – exploring the world of our client, GANT – and dive into the story behind the brand with Creative Director, Mathew Wood.

Founded in New Haven USA, in the early 20th century; GANT has been pushing the boundaries of garment manufacturing from the very beginning of their journey. Fast forward to 2018, GANT is a leading figure in the fashion industry, with innovative designs that stay true to their humble roots.

Take a look at an excerpt from the magazine below – or read the full article on issuu here.

In the beginning, the Gantmacher family made clothes for other brands but, after the second world war, Bernhard Gantmacher was encouraged by his two sons to start their own line of shirts – so GANT inc was introduced to the market. Marty, the eldest son, was the business administrator and Elliot took care of the marketing. Combined with their father’s sense and dedication to quality, this proved to be a winning combination. Perfectly tailored shirts were the start of the multifaceted brand we see today.

Today, GANT’s Head Office is located in Stockholm, Sweden where we interviewed Mathew Wood, the Creative Director of Gant. Wood was born in the U.K in 1971 into a family who worked with textiles and fashion, so it was only natural that Mathew Wood would walk the same path. He studied at the London College of Fashion in the early 1990’s, and went on to take a master’s degree at the Royal College of Art. His career has given him experience of most aspects of the fashion business, having worked in different global markets, before going to work with GANT. Mathew Wood’s experience in both fabric and construction led to innovation within the already successful brand.
