Woven Labels
Woven labels are high-profile brand carriers, and must closely reflect changing fashion trends in order to be an integral part of your branding. Nilorn UK Ltd has always given high priority to innovation in design and weaving, resulting in an impressive range of label qualities which go far beyond the traditional.
Taffeta
Taffeta, or Plain Weave, is the tightest weave structure possible and therefore has stability and durability, even at relatively low thread density. This makes Taffeta very economical for basic labelling. For the designer the Taffeta ground provides a versatile base for many brocade weave effects which can be combined to create elaborate pictorial effects. Sometimes the Taffeta ground is completely covered by a figure colour. This 'panel' gives strong background colours and makes the label and badge more substantial.
Twill
Very similar characteristics to Taffeta ground but a diagonal pattern is often seen in the ground weave. By using a twill (diagonal weave) we can emphasize either the ground weft or the warp to affect the colour. Because twill weaves are not as tightly interlaced as Taffeta, it is normal to increase the weaving density to maintain firmness. This has the added benefit of slightly increased definition of the design details.
High Pick Sateen
This type of label is made using a Taffeta loom setup but with double weaving density. The weave structure brings a great deal of ground weft to the surface, resulting in very strong colour saturation. Because of the very high density of weaving, the design definition is generally very high although very small text and other intricate work will tend to be distorted. In summary, this is a more expensive product which is ideally suited to bold colourful designs.
Satin
Satin labels have a smooth feel and appearance, and are often used to enhance the presentation of high quality garments. The satin looms have twice as many warp threads per centimetre as taffeta and, this in combination with the satin weaves used, gives the fine, lustrous appearance. The classic satin quality is often used for prestige 'flagship' labels. The ground colour is limited to the colour of the warp.
Reverse Satin
As the name implies, the back of the normal satin weave is employed to give more opportunities for ground colours. Because the weft is emphasized, the satin sheen is lost, but the colour and firmness makes reverse satins very attractive. Some designs feature sections of satin and reverse satin and the matt/shiny contrast can be very effective. Such combinations may also be used to create unique textured effects such as marbled ground or even shadow text backgrounds.
High Definition
A special combination of weaves and fine yarns, which gives maximum definition of design. The thread densities are so high that the label almost looks printed. Though the labels feel very soft they have great stability for attachment and excellent durability.
Monofilament
Woven labels are textiles and by nature contain stitches or 'binders' which can distract the eye and break-up small letters. To overcome this we offer our Monofilament satin qualities on broadloom and woven edge. Minute nylon threads are included in the warp and these are used to tie down the figure weft invisibly. The result is a very solid figure with a less textile appearance. The combination of high definition and monofilament gives a truly 'Rolls Royce' quality.
Textured Ground Weaves
A wide array of effects can be invoked by the use of weave textures. These often complement the fabrics used in the garment, for example, Herringbone Twills, Gross Grain and ribbed effects. Others may be graphic such as Marble or floral effects.
Natural Fibres
Methods of incorporating cotton and linen yarns into labels have been developed, giving the look and feel of natural fabrics.
Invisible Bindings (Monofilament)
A special weaving set-up, which enables very fine, clear threads to be used for stitching down the figure colours, making the binding points invisible. The result is a very clean, non textile appearance.
Very High Definition
A technique for utilising extremely high thread densities in warp and weft to produce very smooth definition. Top quality labels for progressive brands.
Micro-Weave
A combination of very fine warp and weft, giving superb detail with a soft, lightweight feel. Perfect for lingerie, detailed sports labels, child/babywear or where very small detail is required.
Tubular Structures
Products such as padded zip-pulls, double sided labels and woven button bags.
3 Dimensional Effect
An interesting special-effect. All or part of the label is over-woven with clear threads, giving an almost holographic appearance.
