NILORN EMPLOYEE RUNS FOR CHARITY

[Tuesday 01 July 2008]

A Nilorn employee has raised £220 for a children’s hospice in his first ever run!
Andy Lamb, who works for branding and labels company Nilorn UK in Keighley, took part in the Leeds 10k Jane Tomlinson Run for All and completed it in just 55 minutes.
Said Andy, who was one of over 8000 runners: “It’s the first time I have ever taken part in a run but I will definitely do another one again. I didn’t do any specific training but I play a lot of football for Steeton AFC and would regularly run to work (around 2.5 miles) as part of my training.  I ran with my sister raising money for the Martin House Hospice in Boston Spa – I would like to thank everyone for their support for this worthwhile cause.”
Married with a teenage son, Andy lives in Oakworth and has worked at Nilorn UK for over eight years as a cut and fold operator.
Martin House Hospice is one of the partner charities of the Leeds 10k which took place on Sunday June 22.  It cares for over 300 children and young people who suffer from a life limiting, terminal illness and offers a host of vital services both at its purpose built hospice and separate teenage unit and in the family home.

NILORN APPOINTS NEW SALES EXECUTIVE

[Friday 27 June 2008]

Nilorn UK, the labels to logistics specialists, has appointed Jonathan Williams to its sales team.
Jonathan has a global knowledge of the garment industry and the packaging that goes with it.  Before joining Nilorn, Jonathan worked at another label specialist, SML, in business development for five years; a role that he is hoping will benefit him in his new position.
Said Jonathan:  “I am really looking forward to working with a small, compact team that is design led, and introducing new brands and retailers to the Nilorn business.”
Jonathan, 42 lives in Bingley with his wife Caroline and their two children, Isabella, three and Joseph who is one year old.  In his spare time Jonathan enjoys playing hockey and eating out, as well as spending time with his young family.

ECO-CHIC BRANDING SWEEPING THE HIGH STREET

[Friday 27 June 2008]

Eco-credentials are having a massive impact on garment branding.
According to branding specialists Nilorn, the fashion retail market is becoming more and more eco-aware with branding increasingly reflecting the trend for clothes with a more organic, eco look.  Natural looking cardboard is replacing card, and ribbon or string becoming the equivalent to plastic ties as fashion labels go all out to be eco-trendy.
Says Nilorn head of creative design, Simon Harrup:  “More and more we are hearing about how important it is to be environmentally friendly and conscious of the effect our business has on the environment around us.  We are also seeing this being outwardly displayed on branding across the High Street.  Many top retailers want to give their product and effectively their brand a bit of eco-cred.”
The result is an increasing number of garment ‘adornments’ (labels, tags, zippers etc ) that suggest a little eco-chic: a green couture using more natural labels, swing tickets and other brand accessories gives the impression of eco-friendly and natural clothing.
Look out for rope-ties and ribbons that attach tags to the clothing labels, as well as lots of natural colours; creams, browns and beiges that all add to that eco-trendy vibe.
Says Simon:  “Eco-appeal is where its at and nearly every major brand is adjusting the tone of what it does to reflect that.  At Nilorn it has meant sourcing a lot more natural and environmentally friendly trims that both look good and are greener on the environment.”

NILORN SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS FASHION SHOW

[Friday 27 June 2008]

A fashion design student is modelling the hottest in branding ‘couture’ on her latest collection thanks to Nilorn UK.
Emma Winsor, from The University of Lincoln, chose the Keighley-based firm to add the ‘piece de resistance’, 500 woven labels in the primary colours of her Roobyx Qyoobe brand logo for her final degree six outfit collection.
Said Emma: “I was so grateful to Nilorn for supporting me by supplying the labels for my designs. It’s extremely important when putting together a fashion collection, whether for a degree course or actual sale, that the whole concept works, from the design itself to garment detail, branding and packaging.  The labels really finish off the outfits, making them look very professional.”
The Roobyx Qyoobe collection is a fun brand designed for young, fashion conscious women and is a six outfit collection that includes a dress, playsuit, jersey tops, trousers, hooded tops, a sweater and skirts.
Said Stephen Booth, country manager for Nilorn UK: “We were only too happy to help Emma with branding for her fashion collection.   She already had a design and concept in mind that was based on the popular eighties toy, the Rubix Cube, and so we designed a label that fitted with Emma’s own designs and concept.”
Originally from Torquay, Emma has just completed her final year of a Fashion Studies degree at The University of Lincoln.

NEW RFID SYSTEM FOR CRAFT

[Monday 03 December 2007]

CRAFT Pro Underwear RFID system from Nilorn

The Nilorn Group has developed a revolutionary innovation in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in collaboration with Craft of Scandinavia.

The result is a self-inventory shop rack that represents a breakthrough in stock management.  Aimed at brands sold across a number of stores, it makes restocking more efficient than ever before, leading to increased sales and profitability.
Unveiled at a technical exhibition in Stockholm in October, the new self-inventory shop rack takes RFID a step further in supply chain management.
Says Per Wagnås of the Nilorn Group:  “Nilorn’s self-inventory shop rack allows brand owners to check sales trends in stores, without having to make site visits. The brand owner programmes the shop rack to take an inventory of the products currently in store.  It then sends an e-mail with the current status back to the brand owner.  The brand owner can then distribute more products to the store, so that it will always have the full range.”
The benefits can be seen particularly with goods such as underwear or shirts which need constant replacement and re-stocking.
RFID is an automatic identification method that relies on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders.
The Nilorn/Craft project has been developed in close collaboration with RFID-Constructors, the Finnish RFID; Vilant and the ROL Group.  The smart labels contain a micro-chip which can store large quantities of information - significantly more than on a bar code.

FASHION TO GO

[Monday 23 July 2007]

Pure branding specialist, Nilorn UK, is on line for top success with its web order system thanks to a new design and order care label facility.
Since it was established in 2003 the hi-tech computer system has attracted a host of new contracts, with the percentage of customers using the system doubling year on year.
And now its unique facility to design and order care labels is going down a storm with two new contracts – lingerie brands Charnos and Intimas.
Says Chris Wildman, brand sales manager at Nilorn UK: “The facility is for the online specification of care labels which also includes a preview of the care label artwork.  The care label information is keyed into the system or selected from pre populated drop down lists which are then formatted.  It instantly creates artwork for approval which can then be printed anywhere in the world.  A copy of the approved artwork is kept online so that it can used for the next order.”
Said Paula Watson, marketing manager of Charnos: “The web order system was one of the reasons we chose to use Nilorn.  It enables us to monitor the stock of our labels online, gives instant answers to stock and delivery questions and allows for speedy and simple ordering of labels and packaging in a secure and controlled way.”
Says Chris: “In the garment industry, lead times are extremely short.  From the production of a garment until it is hanging from a rail in a store, buyers want and need a fast logistics solution and that’s where our web order system comes in.  We work with many top names including High Street chains Warehouse and Principles to designer brands such as Ted Baker and Henri Lloyd.”
Nilorn’s web auto-order system can be linked with customers own IT systems so that as soon as an order is sent to external suppliers, a computer file is sent to Nilorn. The file contains information on what labels are needed and where they are to be delivered, right down to garment level.
For example, when buyers at Warehouse key an order in to their system, it not only goes to the relevant manufacturer, wherever they are in the world, but also to Nilorn.  This tells the company exactly which variable data items are needed where in the world, enabling Nilorn to assemble and dispatch a ‘kitbox’ of relevant brand trimmings, often within 24 hours.
“We need to react so rapidly to the fast moving demands of the High Street that it is vital our supply chain can move just as quickly,” says Warehouse head of production Joanna Hillary.
With Nilorn’s web solution, customers can also log in and order labels over the Internet as well as keeping a check on deliveries.  Once logged in they can design barcode labels and labels with variable information, such as composition labels, washing instructions and country of origin, all online.  Data is collected daily and once it has been received, a notification email is sent to suppliers as well as the company.
Says Chris: “Nilorn adapts solutions to the individual brands needs and how each customer operates. This creates shorter lead times and our web and auto-order systems provide total control through the supply chain as well as labour saving benefits.”
Online web user manuals are tailored for each new customer and on-site training is conducted with brand owners and garment manufacturers.
Security is also a major feature.  All users have unique usernames and limited access to only the brands or specific products that they are authorised to order.  Other security features are also built into the system such as PO recognition where a supplier has to quote the correct brand PO to enable them to order the labels, other data is checked and verified either on digital receipt or when the customer keys the data into the web order system.
Says Chris: “As more and more companies look at using automated supply systems, Nilorn will continue to invest and improve its own systems to meet and exceed customer expectations today and for the future".

BRAVE NEW BRANDING

[Friday 04 May 2007]

Nilorn and Nautilus Hidden Image Anti Counterfeit Security
A brave new world of brand security looks set to challenge the future of counterfeiting, according to branding experts, Nilorn UK.
With brand protection an ever increasing concern among companies, smart thinking technology has been tackling the issue of counterfeiting and product theft that costs businesses thousands of pounds a year.
Now a new, sophisticated security solution is paving the way forward for Nilorn UK.  Working in partnership with Nautilus Security to guard against imitation products, Hidden Image Technology (HIT), is the latest concept of high-security ticket printing technology that has the ability to hide images in a vast array of materials.
Says Chris Wildman, brand sales manager at Nilorn: “Smart security is vital to survival in the cut throat world of counterfeiters. In an age where designer rip offs, in the premium garment industry, are often so good, HIT can foil attempts by counterfeiters trying to duplicate products and packaging.
“We are increasingly seeing more switched-on clothing manufacturers placing a growing level of importance on smarter counterfeiting measures and realising that hi-tech labels can bring a host of clever anti counterfeiting benefits to a garment or other product.  HIT is not just an optional extra but a ‘must have’ - taking smart branding to a whole new level.”
HIT is an inexpensive and reliable method of security marking using encrypted 2D and 3D images that remain invisible to the naked eye unless a special lens is used to view the image.  Each ticket can be quickly checked to ensure authenticity and the hidden image is impossible to reverse engineer as there
is nothing to scan.
Says Marc Smith of Nautilus Security: “HIT works by mathematic algorithm which is generated with the end users chosen design.  It is then merged with either the printed design or a master micro embossing shim is made to apply the image to paper, board and fabrics and even leather surfaces.  It is extremely difficult to copy as the high resolution of data regenerating the exact algorithm would result in colossal unusable files.”
“Nilorn work with some very prestigious clothing brands who may have counterfeit issues.  What it means for them is that their consumers will have greater confidence over the product they are buying, knowing for certain that they are getting what they paid for.
“And the beauty of HIT is that is extremely cost effective. It is a cheaper alternative to other, more costly, security system as it uses existing printing technologies.”
And this dual purpose smart technology from Nautilus Securities not only protects brands but promotes them.  The clever benefits that spring from HIT also offer opportunities to act as an interactive marketing tool, encouraging the consumer to get involved in a brand.
“Today’s more savvy consumers are only happy to participate in new and innovative marketing messages,” says Chris: “HIT works by providing interaction with the customer through the use of a decoding lens.  Rather than just a hidden message that indicates whether a product is genuine, it can reveal a specific marketing image or message. “
“For example you could hide competition answers or codes.  It’s a quirky device that adds to the overall feel of a product yet at the same time provides a practical anti counterfeiting solution.”
While brands can be undermined by fakes, implementing a brand enhancement programme can have far-reaching effects, not only through the increased protection of the brand but also through real, visible enhancements.  The improvement of brand labels, swing tickets and packaging protects the brand and, at the same time, communicates a positive message and makes the brand more unique, authentic and desirable.
Says Chris: “Brand security plays a key role in our business and is part of an ongoing commitment to research and develop new technological approaches.  HIT is an innovative device that complements our security features range.  We are currently working with Nautilus on a high profile   design & security concept for a well known American clothing company.”
Based in Keighley, West Yorkshire Nilorn UK is part of the Nilorn Group - ADDING VALUE TO YOUR BRAND.   The group produces fifteen million labels of various types and sizes each day yet its global presence and unique logistic system means that labels can be delivered anywhere in the world within 48 hours.

NILORN CHALKS UP SUCCESS WITH NEW BRAND

[Friday 04 May 2007]

Nilorn Calmon, has chalked up another hit with a new upmarket tailored fashion brand.
It has produced a range of stylish branding, including woven labels, swing tickets, button bags and receipt wallets, for the launch of Charcoal & Chalk - a high quality women’s and menswear clothing range by Yorkshire clothing entrepreneur Austen Pickles. The first shop opened in November at the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet at York.
“We design quality, smart tailoring for both men and women but at the same time adding an element of fun and interest by using interesting patterned fabric and bright colours for the inside of jackets, the piping etc,” says Austen Pickles.
“The clothing has been designed to be aspirational and we wanted all the branding to reflect this ethos from the design of the labels to the actual shop.  The latter was designed by those behind Stella McCartney’s new stores and is positioned next to Hugo Boss and adjacent to Paul Smith and Ted Baker.”
Hi pick sateen labels, designed to be simple yet effective, were used in two colour schemes: fuchsia pink/black for women and lime green/black for men.  The swing tickets, complete with satin ribbon, and the shirt stickers are large enough to include descriptive sentences about the individual garments.
Says Chris Wildman, brand sales manager for Nilorn Calmon: “We have worked with Austen for a number years providing labels for both his Salts made to measure suit making business and Buxton Pickles which manufactures clothes for Austin Reed, Next, Hobbs and LK Bennett.  We were only too happy to work with him on this new venture.”
Offering a one stop shop solution, Nilorn Calmon is a leader in the design and production of garment branding, with a reputation for quality and high standards.  The company produces everything from printed labels to swing tickets, hanger stickers, care labels and packaging.  Seven of the group’s companies, including the UK, have their own dedicated design departments.

[Friday 04 May 2007]

The UK-based design team has been involved in creating the whole branding concept from labels to packaging designs, with its Nilorn Worldwide partners.
Said Chris Wildman, Nilorn UK’s brand sales manager: “We have combined Jaguar’s strong identity with innovative branding to add a new dimension to this clothing collection. Creating an identity in an increasingly competitive market is becoming more and more important for all brands.”
The UK-based design team, headed up by Simon Harrup, worked closely with  the Holland-based garment designers for over six months to produce designs and ensure a perfect follow up of goods thanks to a highly performing and user-friendly web based ordering system.
Sitting alongside the high end suits collection, the exclusive Jaguar casual line features top-of-the-range labels in micro silk and suede, some with brushed metal seals and pins.
Said Chris: “Jaguar is a quality brand and everything associated with it - from labels to logos – needs to reflect this.  We were keen to ensure the branding was synonymous with the Jaguar name and concept and we worked closely with them to choose the materials, shapes and colours that would add value to the end product.”

BAGS OF STYLE

[Friday 22 September 2006]

BAGS OF STYLE
Fashionistas beware! Branding expert Nilorn is gracing the catwalks.
Aoife Ni Chofaigh's bags with Nilorn branding and woven labels
Recently graduated, accessories designer, Aoife Ni Chofaigh, chose Keighley based Nilorn to add the finishing touches to her exclusive handbag collection which was unveiled at the Royal College of Art Fashion Show in London.
Her quirky designs have been given added character by Nilorn’s design team. The fun, eccentric branding features unique motifs and crests such as scissors and crowns that take the bags to a whole new level.
“When I came over to England from Ireland I fell in love with the monarchy especially the decorative elements such as crowns and crests and have incorporated these into my look to give a unique modern twist to a very traditional concept,” says Aoife whose ‘Wonderful Aoife Bags’ are inspired by Japanese kitsch culture. “Scissors were used as they are an important tool to me in my chosen career!
“I worked closely with Nilorn as I was very specific in what I wanted but knew I needed to adapt my designs so they could be woven.  Nilorn suggested alternatives and made me aware of certain limitations, for example making sure the text wasn’t too small or there would be a danger it wouldn’t be legible.”
In partnership, Aoife and Nilorn have created and produced three different designs: a 82x54mm name label, sewn inside the bags, featuring the Aoife logo woven in white on a grey background with silver lurex detailing; a 160x200mm crest panel label woven in four colours - white, pink and silver lurex on a grey background – and used on the front and back of one of the handbags; and a 15mm wide woven tape, featuring tongue-in-cheek slogans in ornate script proclaiming ‘Aoife Bags are wonderful bags’. The white text is woven onto a pink and purple background.
Says Chris Wildman, brand sales manager at Nilorn : “Aoife designs her bags to be statement pieces that don’t take themselves seriously and the branding enhances this.  The labels and woven tape are colourful and quirky and really strengthen her brand.”

Based in Keighley, West Yorkshire, Nilorn UK is part of the Nilorn Worldwide group - one of the biggest and most modern label companies in the world.
The company provides everything from simple printed or woven labels and swing tickets through to a complete brand packaging concept that covers  everything from complete design services to production and integrated logistic solutions that guarantee reliability of supply and short delivery times.

STAY PROTECTED

[Friday 22 September 2006]

Lowe Alpine Outdoor Clothing Branding by Nilorn
Outdoor clothing manufacturers, Lowe Alpine are blocking the sun with a little fun thanks to help from branding experts Nilorn .
In partnership the duo have designed and produced a range of innovative sun protection hang tags that clearly identify the ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) - how much of the sun’s radiation is absorbed by the fabric - for different Lowe Alpine garments.
With sun protection an issue for the outdoor clothing industry, the striking labels illustrate how a particular fabric protects the skin from solar UV allowing the customer to select the correct sun protective clothing.
Says Chris Wildman, brand sales manager at Nilorn : “The fabric in most clothing has very little resistance to UV rays.  Those who spend a lot of time outdoors have prolonged exposure to the sun so high UPF clothing keeps off the sun’s rays.”
The black and red label design identifies clothing with a UPF of 50 which offers excellent protection.  The UPF 40 black/orange and UPF 30 black/yellow labels offer very good protection.
Says Mayra Almonte, marketing and communications manager for Lowe Alpine: “When we needed to create and produce a new concept for the sun tags, we didn’t hesitate to contact Nilorn, with who we have a long standing relationship.  They are always professional and deliver the results.
“This year we have also been working with Nilorn to change our hang tags and header cards with our new logo and colours, for the spring and autumn collections.

FAST FASHION

[Thursday 22 December 2005]

Warehouse Fashion Branding, Woven Labels, Swing Tags, Barcodes by Nilorn
Nilorn's groundbreaking supply system is helping the lightning fast turn-round of High Street fashions.
Among the first to benefit is Rubicon Group’s Warehouse chain, now reaping the benefits of tapping into Nilorn's automated logistics system. Thanks to Nilorn’s global network, this ensures all stock branding trims – from woven labels to swing tickets, hanger loops, size tabs, bag and box stickers etc..are wherever they need to be in the world within 48 hours.
“We need to react so rapidly to the fast moving demands of the High Street that it is vital our supply chain can move just as quickly,” says Warehouse head of production Joanna Hillary.
To help with its recent rebranding exercise and with an eye to the speed of its unique world-wide distribution system, Warehouse worked with branding supply experts Nilorn to achieve an integrated solution to rapid lead time requirements.
Now, when buyers at Warehouse key an order in to their system, it not only goes to the relevant manufacturer, wherever they are in the world, but also to Nilorn.  This tells the company exactly which variable data items are needed where in the world, enabling Nilorn to assemble and dispatch a ‘kitbox’ of relevant brand trimmings, often within 24 hours.
“Nilorn adapts solutions to the individual brands needs and how each customer operates,” says Key Account and Marketing Manager Chris Wildman. “This creates shorter lead times and our web and auto-order systems provide total control through the supply chain as well as labour saving benefits.”
The company, which offers everything from branding design to total trimming and packaging requirements also offers on-line ordering, designed to be accessed and used by both client and manufacturer. This provides a complete overview of order, warehousing and distribution so labels and care labelling can be ordered and deliveries checked.

SNUGPAK BRANDING

[Monday 10 October 2005]

Logos, labels and logistics specialists Nilorn have helped
Snugpak® transform the fortunes of the flagging brand West Winds and re-launch it into the outdoor market.
The West Winds brand of 100% cotton Ventile® clothing, recently acquired by Snugpak, has been given a new lease of life with re-designed swing tickets and woven laser cut badges that have smartened and updated the brand presentation.
“We modified West Wind garment styles to bring them up to date but we also wanted the branding and presentation to have a fresh new look and reflect the quality of the brand,” says Mick Dobson managing director for Snugpak, the UK’s biggest manufacturer and supplier of sleeping bags, rucksacks and insulated clothing.
“We have worked with Nilorn for about seven years, but this is the first time we have used them to help revamp brand presentation,” says Mick. “Together with the garment re-designs the impact has been significant and West Winds is once again winning new business.”
Said Chris Wildman, brand sales manager at Nilorn UK: “We developed the new branding for West Winds through our sister design company Nilorn Design.  Each swing ticket features the West Winds logo inlaid on a black and white outdoor landscape photograph.  The overall effect reflected the company’s image of a high quality brand suitable for the demands required by the outdoor industry.”
Recently re-launched by Snugpak, West Winds has been established for ten years and its Ventile® garments are supplied to those who work outdoors, where extreme weather demands the best in protective clothing.  National Parks, the British Antarctic Survey, military departments and outdoor educational establishments are just some of West Wind’s customers.
Nilorn UK, part of the Nilorn Worldwide group, offers customers a complete label concept with the emphasis on profiling and image strengthening.   The concept covers everything from complete design services to production and integrated logistic solutions that guarantee reliability of supply and short delivery times.

ALL WRAPPED UP

[Wednesday 15 February 2006]

As more and more giftware products fight to stand out from the crowd, brand trimmings and packaging can be the finishing touch that swings a sale.
“For a product to be more prominent than its rivals, it needs to make real visual impact,” says Chris Wildman, brand sales manager for Nilorn UK, the leading design concept, brand trimmings and logistics company.  “Clever packaging and branding can make the difference, transforming an otherwise ordinary looking product into the extraordinary.”
This ‘total brand experience’ is something increasingly sought after by companies looking to enhance and add value to a product as well as making it stand out from the crowd.  “It’s about selling a total brand concept to the consumer, making them buy into the whole experience,” says Chris.
“However special a product – be it a pair of earrings or candles – presentation is all.  Highly styled, fabulous packaging can elevate the appearance of the simplest product and provides an incredibly powerful selling tool.   By using brand trimmings to reflect the style and essence of a product, suddenly you are selling more than a pot of jam or watch. You are selling a lifestyle concept and that’s what today’s increasingly sophisticated shopper buys into.”
As packaging becomes more luxurious and adventurous, labels play an important role in strengthening the brand and capturing the attention of customers in a store setting.
At Nilorn any kind of label can be produced – the only limit is the imagination.  From traditional woven and paper labels to embossed, rubber, plastic and embroidered varieties, there is a label that will enhance any brand image.
Said Chris: “Labels are a vital accessory and with packaging the smallest detail can make or break a product. Even something as simple as watch box inserts, adhesive seals for wrapping lingerie or cufflink boxes can be made to be unique and stylish, adding to the overall desirability of a product.
“That’s why we offer our customers a complete label concept with the emphasis on profiling and image strengthening.  The concept contains everything from complete design services to production and integrated logistics.”

CODING & LABELLING

[Wednesday 15 February 2006]

The Nilorn Group has made great strides in combining labels with security solutions, here Chris Wildman, brand sales manager of Nilorn UK looks at putting a stop to counterfeiting and product shrinkage.
Brand protection has become one of the key issues for the packaging industry, with counterfeiting and product theft an ever increasing concern.
It is estimated that counterfeiting can cost companies thousands of pounds yet effective security can easily be achieved with cost-effective measures such as tamper evident seals, authentication labels and the latest anti-counterfeiting technologies that protect, deter, detect, identify, track and trace.
At Nilorn we work hard to offer customers specialised security solutions that gives them the brand security they need.  All our labels, tickets and packaging can incorporate special anti-counterfeiting measures both obvious and concealed.
One such way to prevent counterfeiting of products is to give labels a unique, invisible identification – this can be in the form of our Nilorn Secure product (a covert detection mark that can be applied invisibly to labels), sequential numbering, UV inks, holographic labels, watermarks or security inks – that makes it possible to spot a counterfeit and allows brand owners to regain control over their own brand.  The demand for this type of label is increasing and during the year, as a group, we have supplied millions of  security labels to brand owners throughout Europe.
For chains and department stores that want to prevent theft an effective solution is to integrate alarm threads into the design of the label.  It avoids store personnel having to attach alarm clips or other forms of anti theft protection and any unnecessary handling that results in extra costs, while also gaining access to a system in which all products are alarmed.
One of the more interesting and exciting development projects is the Intelligent Label System which offers a total RFID tracking package incorporated into the stock and store systems to maintain complete control over all goods throughout the supply chain, from manufacturer to warehouse and point of sale.
Based on RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology* it can help fortify visibility, with better data transmission and instant updates, and goes beyond the traditional bar-code product identification to offer critical information such as product source, destination and communication between client and manufacturer.
Other benefits include improved customer service, information on inventory status, exact tracking and management of assests and instant price changes in shops. The ‘smart’ label contains a microchip that also serves as an anti-theft device at the time of delivery from the manufacturer.  While bar-coded articles have to be read one-by-one, systems based on RFID can read all the articles in large package consignments.

* RFID first appeared in tracking and access applications.  These wireless systems allow for non-contact reading and are effective in manufacturing.  RFID has established itself in a wide range of markets because of its ability to track moving objects.

RANGERS GIVE THE BOOT TO FAKES

[Wednesday 14 September 2005]

Rangers Football Club anti-counterfeit woven labels and branding

When The Rangers Football Club needed to boot up its anti-counterfeiting measures it looked no further than experts Nilorn UK - the leading design concept, brand trimmings and logistics company.

The club estimates it could be losing £5 - £6 million a year to imitation Rangers products and employs a host of different security measures to Rangers Football Club Labelscombat counterfeiting.

“We are always looking for new methods to step up security,” said Alistair Campbell, head of brand protection at Rangers. “In conjunction with Nilorn Calmon, we have now developed a range security labels and swing tickets – to be used on all merchandise from replica player kits to gift vouchers – that have a unique, invisible identification.

“Brand protection has become a key issue for club merchandise, with counterfeiting and product theft an ever increasing concern,” says Alistair. “The figure of £5-£6 million in lost revenues to the club is based only on what is actually seized by the authorities and doesn’t include merchandise that actually reaches the market.”

Rangers chose the Nilorn Secure product - a covert detection mark that can be applied invisibly to labels. Detection is done either by visual reading or by an acoustic detection device. Nilorn Secure may be used alone or as part of a “layered” approach, combining overt and covert security strategies.

Rangers Football Club Woven LabelsSaid Chris Wildman, brand sales manger for Nilorn Calmon UK: “It is estimated that counterfeiting can cost companies millions of pounds yet effective security can easily be achieved with cost-effective measures such as tamper evident seals, authentication labels and the latest anti-counterfeiting technologies that protect, deter, detect, identify, track and trace.”
